## Create your llms.txt file

Start with your public business name. Add your main service, about and contact pages, using full URLs. Remove an unused link or section rather than leaving a required field blank.

The interactive tool is available on the web page. Enter your site name, summary, notes and sections with a title, URL and description for each link. Copy the output or download it as llms.txt.

## What is llms.txt?

The [llms.txt proposal](https://llmstxt.org/) describes a Markdown index for agents. It starts with a site-name H1, followed by an optional blockquote summary, notes and H2 sections of links. Only the H1 is required. A section named Optional groups secondary reading by convention.

This generator formats the facts and links you enter. It does not crawl your site, verify business claims, create Markdown versions of pages or test the linked URLs.

## Choose pages that answer a buying question

Choose pages that help a prospective customer decide: services, scope, about, contact and published policies. Describe what each page answers instead of repeating a sales pitch.

For a bilingual site, label the language of each destination. Link to a Markdown version only when it actually exists and matches the public page. ## Where to put llms.txt and how to verify it

For a whole-site index, publish at your site's /llms.txt. The proposal also allows a file under a subpath, such as /docs/llms.txt, to describe that part of a site. A download alone does not publish anything.

1. Review the generated text. Remove outdated claims and check every destination. Keep a copy of any existing llms.txt before replacing it.
2. Publish the file through your hosting or CMS. The [Next.js public folder](https://nextjs.org/docs/app/api-reference/file-conventions/public-folder) serves public/llms.txt at /llms.txt. On WordPress, choose one file or plugin to own that route so two publishers do not conflict.
3. Open the public URL in a signed-out browser. Confirm an HTTP 200 response with text, not an HTML error page, login screen or security challenge. Follow the links and check any Markdown alternatives separately.
4. Assign an owner to update the file when services or important URLs change. Maintain your XML sitemap separately; llms.txt does not replace it.

## What an llms.txt file cannot guarantee

Publishing llms.txt does not establish that an AI system has read it or will cite or recommend your business. The file gives agents a content index; it does not guarantee rankings, citations or leads.

The proposal distinguishes llms.txt from robots.txt and sitemaps. It is not an access-control mechanism. Keep private material behind authentication, and do not expect instructions in this file to override an agent's rules.
