Law firm websites with ten recorded passes

Every example below had a meta description, legal JSON-LD, a privacy link, a phone link, one homepage H1, a viewport tag and a dated copyright that passed the study threshold. The audit detected no mixed content, placeholder pattern or broken sampled link or image. The same definitions apply to each site.

What an agency can take from these examples

Use the shared checklist as an acceptance sheet for your own build. Record the page and evidence for each item, then separately test the mobile layout, keyboard access and intake flow. The different titles and headings here show why recording an element and judging its wording are separate tasks.

What passing all ten checks means

A pass describes the saved audit result. It is not a promise that the same result would be returned today.

  1. Meta description: A nonempty meta description was present on the homepage.
  2. Legal structured data: LegalService, Attorney or LawFirm was detected in parsed JSON-LD on fetched pages.
  3. Privacy link: An anchor text or URL contained privacy. The policy itself was not assessed.
  4. Tap-to-call: A tel: link appeared on a scanned page. No call was placed.
  5. One H1: The homepage had exactly one H1 element. This is the study rule, not a universal SEO ranking rule.
  6. Copyright year: A dated notice was detected and its latest plausible year was not before 2025. A missing year does not count as a pass here.
  7. Mixed content: No literal HTTP src outside noscript was detected on scanned HTTPS pages. CSS and dynamic resources were outside scope.
  8. Sampled links and images: No broken navigation URL or image was recorded in the sampled resources. This does not cover every resource on the site.
  9. Placeholder text: The source-text rules did not detect the placeholder patterns used by the study. This was not a full editorial review.
  10. Viewport tag: The homepage had a viewport meta tag. Mobile usability was not tested.

Methods

Where the examples and numbers came from

We reused Fer Marketing's October 2026 audit of 300 reachable US law firm websites across 20 predefined metros. Its sample came from OpenStreetMap listings with lawyer tags and a website. The original filters removed directories, social networks, duplicate domains, public bodies and a list of large national firms. Parked, for-sale, placeholder and unrelated pages were excluded after review.

The published study reports 104 sites with none of its ten issues detected. That broader count can include unknown results. We recalculated the anonymized rows and found 89 with explicit passing values for all ten. For this page we additionally required a recorded city, at least one checked navigation URL and image, and zero unverified sampled resources. We walked the original sample order, taking one site per metro until we had 6 live examples. This is an editorial subset, not a ranking.

On October 19, 2026, we checked robots.txt and made an allowed HTTP GET to each selected homepage, followed redirects and confirmed that the returned page title matched the saved audit title. 6 sites were attempted; 0 were excluded by this live check. We did not rerun the ten-check audit.

  • The original audit read source HTML, without running JavaScript. It fetched a homepage and up to 2 secondary pages, and sampled navigation URLs and images.
  • City labels come from the original listing, not a fresh address check. We did not add practice-area labels or infer headcount or ownership.
  • The sample is not random across all US firms. OSM coverage, accessible sites and this page’s additional filters limit how far the results generalize.
  • No screenshots, form submissions, phone calls, client results or conversion measurements were collected for this article. A live HTTP response does not certify the whole site.

Read the original study and full methodology. The named examples use the original audit records behind that study. Its public CSV remains anonymized.

Download the collected example data (JSON). Includes source URLs, original access dates, recorded checks and the separate live verification. Counts are generated by the reproducible script in the site repository.

Frequently asked questions

Are these the best lawyer websites?

They are examples that passed the ten recorded technical checks in our October 2026 study. We did not rank visual design, legal services, accessibility, search positions or conversion rates. Their inclusion does not imply a client relationship or endorsement.

Does this identify the best small law firm websites?

No. The sample excluded a list of large national firms, but firm size and ownership were not verified. A small practice can use the same checks without treating this selection as a ranking by firm size.

Were all ten checks repeated for this article?

No. The ten results come from the original October 2026 audit. On October 19, 2026, we made a separate HTTP GET to each selected site to confirm that it still returned a live firm page. We did not repeat the full audit or submit any forms.

Is a contact form part of the ten-check score?

No. Form detection was a separate measurement in the study. A ten-check pass does not establish that a form exists, submits correctly or delivers a message. Forms and intake need their own manual tests.
