WordPress conversion rate optimization: start here
A conversion is the useful action you want a visitor to complete. For a service business, that usually means a received inquiry or confirmed appointment; for a store, a completed order. Decide which outcome matters before choosing a new theme, popup or optimization plugin.
| Action | What it tells you | Confirm next |
|---|---|---|
| CTA click | Interest in contact | Did contact happen? |
| Form received | An inquiry arrived | Is it a suitable lead? |
| Phone link tap | Intent to call | Was the call connected? |
| Booking confirmed | A slot was reserved | Did the job happen? |
| Paid order | A sale completed | Refunds and margin |
Define your rate consistently: visits with the chosen completed action divided by eligible visits, multiplied by 100. Keep that definition when comparing periods, and keep clicks separate from submissions. A WhatsApp click is useful evidence of intent, but it does not prove a conversation or sale.
↑ Back to topWhat matters more than a redesign trend
A polished site can still leave visitors unsure what you sell, what it costs or who will answer. Put the business decision ahead of the visual effect. Our recommended order is to remove obstacles, clarify the offer and add evidence before experimenting with presentation.
Do: help people decide and act
- Keep one clear contact CTA visible on every screen.
- Keep a form available and make phone numbers tap-to-call.
- Explain the offer and show a real price or starting price.
- Show real team photos and an About story with names.
- Use specific reviews, case studies and verified credentials.
- Load quickly and show accurate address or service-area details.
Don't: make decoration carry the sale
- Hide the main offer inside a rotating slider or carousel.
- Delay contact options behind elaborate animations.
- Use generic stock people as your team or your lawyers.
- Replace a useful explanation with a long mission statement.
- Give ten competing CTAs the same visual weight.
- Add badges, promises or prices you cannot substantiate.
A carousel can show extra work, and an animation can express a brand, but neither should be required to understand the offer. Keep essential information readable without waiting or interacting. Choose one primary action per page, with quieter alternatives for people who prefer a call or message.
↑ Back to topA call to action on a website must stay useful
A call to action on a website tells a visitor what to do next and what that action starts. Use a label such as Request a written quote or Book a service visit, then explain the next step nearby. Submit and Learn more give people less information at the moment they decide.
- No form in homepage or contact page HTML
- 27%
- No tap-to-call link
- 15%
- Neither a form nor a tel: link
- 10%
Our study of 300 law firm sites, October 2026. HTML checks identify contact gaps, not measured lost leads.
Keep the CTA available as visitors scroll, using a compact sticky header or contact bar that leaves room to read. A form should be reachable from every important page without navigating a maze. On a phone, test that cookie notices, chat widgets and the keyboard do not cover the button or fields.
Ask enough to respond
Start with a name, a reply method and a short request. Require extra fields only when the answer changes whether or how you can help; explain why you need them.
Offer a real alternative
Make the published number callable and keep email or messaging available. Tell visitors when someone replies, especially if a call goes unanswered outside working hours.
Prove delivery
Send a labeled test and check the staff inbox, saved entry and confirmation. A success message on screen does not prove the inquiry reached the person responsible.
Our own site pairs a sticky header CTA with WhatsApp and a same-business-day reply promise, 9 AM to 9 PM ET. That makes the next step concrete; use a response promise your team can actually keep. If submissions disappear, follow our WordPress email delivery guide before changing the button color.
↑ Back to topWebsite trust starts with people and price
Treat About and pricing as core pages for prospects checking whether you are a suitable choice. Review your analytics to learn how often your visitors use them rather than assuming a universal ranking. Link both clearly from service pages and navigation, with a route back to contact.
NN/g's About Us research describes people seeking understandable company information, authentic photos and ways to reach a real person. Apply that by explaining who runs the business, who does the work and what happens after an inquiry. A named founder and a useful story carry more information than a paragraph about excellence.
Put a person behind the offer
Show current photos, names and relevant experience. Our About page identifies founder Fernando Marcano, an IT engineer with 20+ years of hands-on IT experience, and Fer LLC in Wyoming.
Make price useful
Publish fixed pricing when the scope allows it, or a genuine starting price with what affects the quote. We show web development from $250 and give a fixed written quote before work starts; see pricing.
Explain the next step
Say what the prospect should send, who replies and when price becomes final. For agencies, explain white-label delivery, staging on the agency domain and the availability of NDA and non-solicitation terms.
Trust signals: real faces and specific proof
NN/g's photo eyetracking research distinguishes informative images, including real people and products, from decorative filler that users may ignore. Use photos to answer a question: who will help me, what does the work look like, or is this the right product? A lawyer or consultant should show the actual person a client may hire.
Stock photos can fit
- Abstract backgrounds that do not imply a real place or person.
- Illustrative product context, clearly distinct from actual product evidence.
- Supporting visuals that leave the offer and CTA easy to read.
Use real evidence here
- People presented as your staff, attorneys or consultants.
- Your office, completed work and specific products for sale.
- Customer stories, credentials and claims about results.
Criminal defense attorney website trust signals
Show the actual attorney, full name, relevant practice areas, office or service area, and verifiable license information. Explain what an initial conversation covers and provide a discreet contact route without demanding a detailed case history in the first form. Avoid guaranteed outcomes; link your law firm website content to evidence a prospect can check.
Publish reviews from real customers with their meaning intact and a source people can verify. The FTC's rule on fake reviews and testimonials prohibits fake reviews and incentives conditioned on positive or negative sentiment. Keep case studies specific about the problem, work and observed outcome, as in our portfolio, without inventing a percentage improvement.
↑ Back to topGold Wrench: make the next step easier
For Gold Wrench, a mobile mechanic in Orlando formerly marketed as mecánico a domicilio, conversion includes a useful booking journey. We built a custom site with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and Google Calendar, with a service catalog and bilingual booking. It is a custom website, and the same customer-journey principles apply on WordPress.

The customer enters an address, and the system checks that day's appointments. If the address is within about a 30-minute drive of jobs already booked in that zone, it offers nearby slots, such as a morning visit in the north area; otherwise it offers the afternoon or another day according to availability. The result is less driving between jobs and booking without phone tag.
↑ Back to topMake mobile contact quick and comfortable
Speed work should help a visitor read the offer and use the form sooner. Check the actual service page on a phone, including menu, field labels, errors and confirmation. Use the mobile WordPress guide for usability and the WordPress speed guide for the loading work behind it.

Our site uses Next.js, with prerendered pages served through Cloudflare and a QUIC.cloud page cache. These are the same principles we apply on WordPress: prepare public pages efficiently and keep the contact experience light. In these captures, desktop performance was 100 across the tested pages; mobile text pages scored 91 to 92, while our heavier visual pages scored 79 to 81.
↑ Back to topWordPress conversion rate optimization audit
Run a conversion audit as a customer journey, from the search result or ad to the reply. Review the live experience first, then make changes on staging. Write down the failure, affected page and expected outcome so the redesign has a clear purpose.
- Step 1
Choose one goal and record a baseline
Pick received inquiries, confirmed bookings or purchases. Record the current tracking definition, traffic sources and lead quality so a later comparison uses the same basis.
- Step 2
Follow a prospect on a phone
Open the landing page from its likely entry point. Check whether the offer, price context and next action make sense without opening several pages or waiting for a slider.
- Step 3
Test each contact route end to end
Tap the number, open messaging and submit a labeled form test. Confirm delivery and ownership, and test the booking confirmation or checkout where applicable.
- Step 4
Review evidence and unanswered questions
Check About, pricing, team images, reviews and case studies. Replace vague claims with verifiable details and remove requests for information the team does not yet need.
- Step 5
Make and review focused changes
Prioritize broken contact paths, then offer clarity and trust. Implement on staging, test mobile and desktop, and agree what success will look like before publishing.
- Step 6
Verify live and review real inquiries
Repeat critical tests after launch and check that tracking counts the intended action once. Compare suitable periods and ask the team whether inquiries fit the business and receive a response.
Before calling the audit complete
- One main action stays visible. It works while scrolling and is not covered by mobile overlays.
- Form, phone and messaging routes work.Delivery and the person handling each route are confirmed.
- Price, people and proof are easy to find. The published details match what the customer will actually receive.
- Measurement follows a completed action.Exclude your tests and spam, and avoid counting a repeated confirmation as a new lead.
Average website conversion rate by industry?
An average website conversion rate by industry is only useful when its definition resembles yours. A benchmark based on ad landing pages or email signups cannot tell you how a local service page should perform on qualified bookings. Check the source, date, traffic mix and counted action before using any average as a target.
Compare like with like
Separate paid and organic traffic, mobile and desktop, and different services. A change in audience can move the rate even when the page stays identical.
Count quality and follow-through
Review qualified inquiries, appointments and sales alongside submission totals. More spam or unsuitable requests can make a dashboard look better while wasting the team's time.
Give the evidence time
For low-traffic sites, inspect real inquiries and repeated obstacles before declaring a winning variant. Use controlled testing when volume supports it, and record seasonality or campaign changes.
You do not need an industry average to repair an undelivered form or clarify an ambiguous offer. Start there, then use evidence to guide the next change. Our web development service can handle the redesign, integration and verification, including delivery under an agency's brand.

Frequently asked questions
What is WordPress conversion rate optimization?
It is the process of helping suitable visitors complete a useful action, such as an inquiry, booking or purchase, and measuring the result. It combines offer clarity, trust, usable contact options and reliable delivery.
What is a good average website conversion rate by industry?
There is no single useful target across all business websites. Compare benchmarks only when their traffic, industry and definition of conversion match yours, then judge your own qualified leads and completed sales over comparable periods.
Where should I put a call to action on a website?
Put the primary action near the offer, after useful proof and at the end of the page. Keep a compact contact option visible during scrolling, and check that it leaves enough room to read and fill out forms on a phone.
Should I show prices on a service website?
Show a fixed price when the scope is clear, or an honest starting price with the factors that affect the quote. Fer Marketing's web development starts from $250, with a fixed written quote before any work.
Are stock photos bad for website trust?
They can work as abstract decoration or illustrative context. Use real photos for people presented as your team, your office and evidence of completed work, especially when clients are choosing an attorney or consultant.
Which criminal defense attorney website trust signals matter?
Show the actual attorney, a clear biography, verifiable license information, relevant services, accurate location details and authentic reviews or case examples. Explain the initial contact process, avoid outcome guarantees and keep the first form focused on what is needed to respond.
Do I need a conversion plugin for WordPress?
Start by checking your existing pages and contact tools. A plugin may support forms, booking or measurement, but it cannot decide your offer, supply real proof or confirm that staff respond to inquiries.
Can an agency hire Fer Marketing for conversion redesigns?
Yes. We provide white-label web development from $250 with a fixed written quote before work, staging on the agency domain, and NDA and non-solicitation terms available. We reply the same business day, 9 AM to 9 PM ET, by WhatsApp or email.
Send your page to fer@fer.marketing or WhatsApp for a fixed written quote from $250 and a same-business-day reply, with white-label delivery for agencies.
