Spanish translation errors on law firm websites: is Google Translate accurate enough?

Spanish translation errors need human review before a law firm publishes: check legal meaning, client vocabulary and every step of contact. We review and correct Spanish website copy, implement approved changes and leave legal meaning to the firm's attorney. We claim no practice-specific clients, rankings, case results or testimonials.

Is Google Translate accurate for Spanish?

It can produce useful drafts, but its output is not sufficient approval for a legal website. The question is whether each published sentence preserves the firm's intended meaning, including qualifications, fees and professional roles. A fluent-looking paragraph can still contain the wrong legal concept.

Those were emergency department instructions, not legal pages, and the study is not a test of today's translation products. Its Spanish result cannot establish an accuracy rate for law firm websites. A site can contain hundreds of strings across pages, forms and templates, so even occasional errors can appear at a crucial contact point; we assign no law-site error rate.

A publication check

  • Review each string in the context of its page and intended action.
  • Ask the attorney to resolve legal meaning and required qualifications.
  • Test the published form and the language-specific page setup.

An unsupported shortcut

  • Treating a medical study as a legal translation accuracy guarantee.
  • Assuming natural grammar proves that the legal concept is correct.
  • Approving a whole website after reading only its Spanish homepage.

Bad translations extend beyond legal paragraphs

Terms clients actually search

For a US audience, review 'accidente de coche' against 'accidente de carro'. Semrush US database, October 2026, reports 8,100 monthly searches for 'abogado de accidente de carro' and 18,100 for 'abogados de accidentes'. These are query estimates, not expected visitors or cases; they support vocabulary choices, not keyword repetition. See SEO for personal injury lawyers.

Interface and technical checks

Review the whole Spanish route

  • Buttons and form fieldsRead visible buttons, labels, placeholders, required-field errors and the thank-you page. They should remain in Spanish through submission and confirmation.
  • Voice, accents and audienceChoose tú or usted consistently, check accents in headings and review Spain vocabulary against the intended US audience. Record the house style so shared templates follow it.
  • URLs and metadataFlag English slugs and English titles or descriptions on Spanish pages. An English slug alone does not prevent ranking; map any approved URL change and its redirect before implementation.
  • Canonical and hreflangA distinct Spanish page should normally have its own canonical, not point to English. Check that language alternates identify equivalent pages and that the language switch reaches the matching service.

For hreflang, Google specifies fully qualified URLs, self references and reciprocal links between alternates. Follow Google's localized-page guidance; an HTML lang value is useful to check, but Google does not use it to detect page language. Document the implementation method before declaring tags missing.

Trust, search visibility and advertising risk

  • Trust at the contact point

An unexplained fee phrase or an English validation message can leave someone unsure what they are agreeing to or whether the form worked. Judge the contact route by what the reader can understand and complete.

  • Search relevance

A page that omits the words clients use makes its relevance harder to establish. Check the Spanish title, H1 and service explanation against the actual query; adding a phrase does not guarantee a ranking.

  • Paid landing-page continuity

If the firm buys Spanish-language clicks, read the destination page in the same language as the ad, including fee terms and contact messages. A paid click does not resolve ambiguity on the landing page.

Prioritize meaning and contact blockers before polishing every sentence. An incorrect role description or fee qualification needs attorney review; an untranslated form error needs a working interface correction. Record the issue, affected URL, proposed wording and owner so the repair is testable.

Check your Spanish site in 15 minutes

Use this as a first pass to find work that needs review, not as a full legal or language audit. Open the Spanish homepage, your top three practice pages and contact form. Keep a sheet of exact URLs and strings, and use invented details for a clearly labeled test submission coordinated with intake.

  1. Step 1

Minutes 0 to 3: open the reader's route

Open the Spanish home, top three practice pages and contact form on a phone or narrow screen. Check the language switch, headings and contact buttons. Note any step that returns to English or opens the wrong service.

  2. Step 2

Minutes 3 to 6: search the legal false friends

Use Ctrl+F for injuria, asentamiento, estatuto de limitaciones, carta de demanda, sentencia, procurador, apoderado and notario. Check context rather than replacing words globally. Flag custody and fee explanations for attorney review.

  3. Step 3

Minutes 6 to 9: test the Spanish form

Trigger a required-field error, then submit a labeled test with invented details. Read labels, errors and the thank-you message; confirm receipt with intake. Record English text and messages whose meaning differs from the approved contact instructions.

  4. Step 4

Minutes 9 to 12: inspect language and indexing signals

View source for the HTML lang value, canonical and hreflang. Check for a Spanish canonical and matching English/Spanish alternates. If alternates are absent from HTML, ask the developer to check HTTP headers or the sitemap before calling it a failure.

  5. Step 5

Minutes 12 to 15: check places and consistency

Check Long Beach and Orange County wherever relevant, plus the firm's actual office names. Note mixed tú/usted, missing heading accents, coche/car audience choices and English metadata. Assign a reviewer and acceptance check to each issue.

Review, approve, implement and verify

We review and correct the Spanish version of US law firm websites: practice pages, attorney bios, forms, buttons, metadata, place names and legal terms. Send the affected URLs through contact. Corrections are scoped and quoted in writing before work; web and WordPress implementation starts from $250.

What to include in your request

  • Pages and scopeList the Spanish URLs, English equivalents and known problems. Include shared forms and templates so the written quote identifies all affected locations.
  • Approval and accessName the attorney who approves legal meaning and the person who can authorize website access and a form test. Identify the platform and any translation plugin.
  • Acceptance criteriaAgree which strings, technical signals and contact steps will be checked. Preserve approved copies and record unresolved questions separately from completed work.

For the service boundaries and legal-review handoff, see legal Spanish website translation. A correction is complete when the approved wording and agreed functionality are verified on the site; ranking changes and new matters are not acceptance criteria.

Frequently asked questions

Is Google Translate accurate for legal documents?

Do not rely on unreviewed machine output for anything with legal effect. Use a qualified legal translator and a certified translation provider where certification is required; confirm the receiving authority's requirements. Our service corrects website content and does not provide certified, sworn or court document translations.

Is DeepL or ChatGPT better than Google Translate for Spanish?

We have no comparative legal-website test that establishes a winner. Any tool's draft still needs human review in context and attorney approval of legal meaning. Compare the actual passages, qualifications and form messages you intend to publish, rather than choosing by a general accuracy claim.

Do translation errors hurt SEO?

Wrong vocabulary can make a page less useful for the queries clients use; English metadata or incorrect language setup can create additional problems. Correcting a term does not guarantee rankings. Review the text, indexing signals and Spanish contact journey together.

Can a translation plugin fix bad translations automatically?

A plugin can manage language versions and store edited strings, but enabling it does not approve legal meaning. Check editable overrides, forms, dynamic messages, metadata and language alternates. Verify that plugin updates do not replace approved corrections.

Does the 94% Spanish study result apply to law firm websites?

No. Taira et al. studied emergency department instructions in 2021, not legal websites or today's translation tools. The Spanish result was 94 of 100 instructions preserving overall meaning. It provides no measured error rate for a law firm website.

Which Spanish translation errors should we fix first?

Prioritize altered legal meaning, misleading professional roles, unclear fee qualifications and contact failures. Then review client vocabulary, proper names, consistency and metadata. A Ctrl+F match is a review prompt, not proof that the word is wrong in every context.

How much does Spanish website correction cost?

Corrections are scoped and quoted in writing before work. Web and WordPress implementation starts from $250; that is not a price for reviewing or correcting an entire site. The quote names pages, shared strings, attorney approval and verification tasks.

Who approves the corrected Spanish before publication?

The firm's attorney approves legal meaning, fees, professional roles, reviews and advertising claims under applicable state bar rules. We document proposed corrections, implement approved changes and verify the agreed website behavior. We are not a law firm.

Send your Spanish website URLs through contact or to fer@fer.marketing for a written correction scope and quote before work. Web and WordPress implementation starts from $250. We reply the same business day, 9 AM to 9 PM ET.
